Born to Race
Big grids meant we had races on Saturday as well as Sunday. In my first heat I came through to 5th, setting the fastest lap. I then had an 11th from 32nd and a 5th, despite being hit off at the start. This meant I started the final in P5, an error by myself cost me a few places at the start but I worked my way back to 7th, even with an issue with the kart. Overall, I'm pleased to have had another consistently good weekend and my pace was very good, setting the fastest lap of the weekend. Onto Whilton Mill club round next.
Started the weekend with a fairly good test day on Saturday, knowing there was more to come. Didn't get the best of qualifying sessions as I left too big of a gap between the pack I had to chase, though I still came out 11th out of the 56 entered. The pre final started off well, I was in P6, though some issues with the kart and mistakes by me I ended up P12. This meant we had to start the A Final in 23rd, I knew I had to come in the top 10 sensibly to get some good points, despite a few crashes narrowly missed I made it to 8th. On reflection, I feel I drove smartly and have put myself in a good position to move forward from. Round 2 is this weekend at Kimbolton and I'm going for the win. Thank you to Litchfield Motorsport for a good start to the season.
The start of a new season at Kimbolton also meant racing with a new team for me – Litchfield Motorsport. After a very successful test day on Saturday I went into race day feeling very confident and optimistic! Two second place finishes in the heats meant that I was P2 on the grid for the final. I narrowly managed to avoid an incident at the first corner, which cost me several places, but thankfully not the race. I set off in pursuit of the P1 driver who had got a good lead on me. By lap 3 I had regained second place and although I was lapping faster than first place I was unable to catch him in the time left. I finished very satisfied in second place and with the fastest lap of the day.
Unfortunately due to mechanical issues with my engine I was only able to complete 1 ¾ of a lap in timed qualifying and my engine failed on the rolling lap of the final. Looking forward to a better result at Kimbolton next weekend.
I raced in x30 this weekend and was pleased to see that there was a strong grid of 22. Saturday test day went very well, with me being the quickest on track throughout the day. I felt very confident going into race day on Sunday, this confidence helped me a lot throughout the day. A good first heat, finishing in 2nd place after a P3 start on the grid, this was followed by another good race, this time starting 16th and making my way up to 5th. I started the final heat in 19th, however I was knocked off the track on the first corner, putting me down to 22nd, although I still managed to fight my way back up to 5th. These heat results meant that I started the final in 3rd. A tough battle with the top 4 occurred throughout the race, though I gained a small gap from 3rd and 4th on the last lap and finished in 2nd place.
Sunday dawned bright and sunny, the track was buzzing with the anticipation of the finals. I drove well in a hard fought Minimax pre-final and finished with a 6th place grid position for the final. The X30 Junior class proved to be my chance to shine, I fought to keep the lead throughout and finished 1st.
exclusion on technical grounds meant that I lost the position and would start the final from the back of the grid.
I drove like a demon in both of the finals, the Minimax race was very hard fought with positions being lost and gained on every lap and I finished in 11th. In X30 Junior a good start and some fantastic driving meant that I made it from a 28th place start up to 11th.
Went to a new circuit this weekend.. Shenington! We were on the X30 for the weekend in preparation for Kartmasters and the X30 Tour! Testing went well on Saturday, despite the fact that there was only 2 other X30's.. We went out with the Junior Rotax's so there was a lot of opportunity for overtaking practice! Heats went well on Sunday, though the X30's had to start at the back each race. I started the final p29, I left the other X30 at the start and chased down the Rotax drivers! I got through to 13th and got the fastest lap of the race and the event! Enjoyed the weekend and love the track as it is fast and flowing.
Raced at Kimbolton this weekend for the HKRC championship. Saturday practice was average as we were on bad tyres.. Sunday morning started off damp but it dried out for the races.. Heat 1: started 13th and came through to 5th with fastest lap. Heat 2: started 10th and finished 2nd. Heat 3: started 4th and led for most of it but dropped down to 3rd after a last lap scrap. Started the final in second and had a good start, was battling for the lead throughout and pushed away with another driver, he got underneath me though on the last lap. I'm still happy to finish 2nd and I got the most points out of everyone today helping me in the championship.
Whilton Mill this weekend with Bryony in Mini Max. She hasn't been there for a few years and the first few sessions were about getting up to speed. By the 4th session she was on it! Saturdays testing went well. Sunday morning practice and again she was on pace. A girl on a mission!! First heat started 9th finished 3rd, great drive against regulars. 2nd heat started 13th, crashed at the start ended up 20th. 3rd heat started 22nd and finished 13th with a good strong drive. 15th on the grid for the in the final. A difficult start and Bryony dropped down to 28th, she came back to 13th with some great over taking and determination. Overall a good weekend and lots learnt.
PF June club meeting was a difficult weekend for Bryony. The track was good and a lot of grip down. However, Bryony struggled a bit with only coming back from New York the day before and with a lack of sleep testing didn't go to plan. After a tough day Saturday for Bryony Sunday morning looked more promising!! With 3 mid pack finishes she was pumped up for a good final. She had a good start but had an issue with her clutch resulting in a DNF. Bryony was snatched from what could have defiantly been a top 5 finish, but she was very mature in handing the situation and kept her head high knowing she would return to her next race meeting stronger.
Bryony King was at Kimbolton and was fastest on track all day Saturday with no tough competition from any other of the strong grid of drivers. This pace continued on through into Sunday with Bryony starting the first heat in 17th and coming through to 5th. An easy win in the second heat from P3 and an awesome drive in heat three starting 8th and coming through to take the win on the last lap, also setting the fastest lap of the event. This meant she started on pole for the final. She was the class of the field until some brainless driver thought the only way to beat her was to park on top of her at the first corner!!! Bryony was left gutted as her well-deserved win was taken away from her. The culprit was excluded from the race which has favoured her in the championship giving her a slight lead ahead of the pack. Bryony would like to thank Jono for all of his help this weekend.
PF International this weekend with Bryony in Mini max. Bryony was on the pace and looking good. Bryony proved she is an equal driver to the boys and never backed down! She finished the first heat in a strong 5th after a tough battle with a tough grid. She started the second heat in 20th and drove all the way through to 3rd, gaining 17 places in the short 9 lap race! She started P13 for the last heat and again a good drive meant she finished in 5th. Bryony gridded up P3 and with a standing start, which appeared so much cleaner and safer!!! She pushed and didn't back down one bit!! After a last lap scrap she ended up 4th - great drive throughout the whole weekend against some of the top Super One drivers.
Kimbolton this weekend. Bryony racing Minimax and X30, showed good pace Saturday in both. Minimax was a little tough with the top 15 split by 3 tenths in the qualifying sessions! Bryony worked her way up to 4th in final but was pushed wide on the top corner ending up 7th overall. X30 was better - won all heats and the final, plus had to contend with the juniors in the way, but she wasn't fazed by that and did the job!!
Meeting HKRC Bryony struggled on old tyres on the Saturday, she showed good pace in heats and qualified 4th, a very good start but she slowly went backwards to 6th. Bryony showed a great deal of maturity this weekend as things didn't go to plan, but she is already preparing herself for the next race.
Kimbolton this weekend with Bryony in Minimax and X30, it started how it was meant to be, she was focused from the first session!! She tested well and was looking good, today she stayed cool and calm on the track, the best I've seen her drive. with a 3rd and 2nd in the heats put her on pole (her first final pole at the circuit) she was still calm and collected drove an excellent race in the final and won by over 2 seconds with no challenge from any other of the drivers. Shame her dad couldn't keep calm!!!! X30 was a poor turnout of drivers but never the less a win is a win! Even beating half the Jnr Max drivers, 2 final wins nice one Bryony. Made history at Kimbolton this weekend as she won in two different classes at the same meeting.
Very good pace on Saturday, good drive by Bryony King in Minimax finishing a strong 3rd. January PFI - PF International Not a bad first weekend racing, very fast in X30 alter a few problems and good driving by Bryony, she finished 3rd. In Minimax Bryony drove her little heart out from the back of the grid to 8th under very poor conditions.
